How to Mix Essential Oil with Water

May 22, 2018

When you mix oil and water together, they separate. The oil always floats to the top because it is less dense than water. This happens when you add a drop of Lemon essential oil into your cup of warm water, the oil just sits on top.

But, we can actually use a dispersant; a substance that allows oil to easily mix with water. There are many common natural dispersants that can be used to mix essential oils in water, such as:

  • Sea salt
  • Epsom salts
  • Witch hazel
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Aloe vera gel
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Cornstarch
  • Liquid castile soap
  • Honey
  • Vegetable glycerin

How to:

  1. Simply add a small amount of dispersant in the container or glass bottle.
  2. Add in few drops of essential oil.
  3. Gently swirl the container or glass bottle to combine the two ingredients.
  4. Fill up the rest with distilled water. Shake it well and it will mix nicely.
