When you mix oil and water together, they separate. The oil always floats to the top because it is less dense than water. This happens when you add a drop of Lemon essential oil into your cup of warm water, the oil just sits on top.
But, we can actually use a dispersant; a substance that allows oil to easily mix with water. There are many common natural dispersants that can be used to mix essential oils in water, such as:
- Sea salt
- Epsom salts
- Witch hazel
- Rubbing alcohol
- Aloe vera gel
- Apple cider vinegar
- Baking soda
- Liquid castile soap
- Vegetable glycerin
- Simply add a small amount of dispersant in the container or glass bottle.
- Add in few drops of essential oil.
- Gently swirl the container or glass bottle to combine the two ingredients.
- Fill up the rest with distilled water. Shake it well and it will mix nicely.
