Power Food for Flu 2

In my earlier post, I shared the goodness of Barley and Black Beans to fight flu. Today, I am going to share another Power Food recipe which is great for your whole family during flu season. You can definitely make this when you are down for any reasons! This recipe is full of nutrients and helps you to boost up the overall immune system.

Multigrain Porridge

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of multigrain (millet, quinoa, brown rice, pearl barley, etc)
  • A handful of a wide selection of vegetables, cut into small pieces (broccoli, zucchini, carrot, etc)
  • Some anchovies
  • 3 slices of ginger and 1 small whole shallot (skin peeled)
  • Pinch of salt or homemade vegetable stock

Wash everything clean, put in a small pot, add in roughly 3 cups of water and cook in a small fire for about 1 hour.

Ginger and shallot are important ingredients in this porridge as they help you to sweat out the toxins in the body, which is helpful when you have a cold or flu. Ginger is also helpful for settling upset stomachs, dizziness, nausea, vomiting and cold sweats. Shallot helps break up or clear mucous and other substances that block the immune system from doing its work.

Children would not be able to drink ginger and onion soup/ drinks. Hence, I add them to the porridge without them realizing it.
