Oily Hair? Need not worry, we have some home remedies for you..

April 30, 2018

My hair gets greasy just a day or two after washing it. I used to wash my hair twice a week and it was totally fine, but not until recently, it just gets oily very fast. As time is precious for a mum of two, I know there is something that I can do to improve the condition.

Oily hair makes one looks unwashed and not presentable, it is important to control this condition so that one can look at her best. To prevent oily hair, the first thing to do is to keep the scalp clean. However, shampooing daily is not always a good idea. Most shampoos contain chemicals which can further aggravate the problem.

Oil is a natural secretion of the scalp that helps keep hair healthy. Oily hair is the result of excessive oil production.

This can happen for many reasons like genetics, hormonal changes, high level of stress, too much oily food and poor hair care.

There are actually quite some home remedies that we can use to keep our hair looking fresh for days.

1. Black Tea

Black tea has an astringent known as tannic acid that helps prevent the buildup of excess oil on the scalp by tightening the pores.

  1. Brew 1 or 2 black tea bags in a cup of water.
  2. Boil it for 15 minutes.
  3. Remove the tea bags and let it cool to room temperature.
  4. Pour the tea on your scalp and hair.
  5. Leave on for five minutes, rinse it off, and then wash hair with mild shampoo.
  6. Repeat two or three times a week.

2. Lemon Juice

Lemon is great for oily hair. The acidic of lemon helps balance the pH level of the scalp and controls oil secretion.

  1. Squeeze the lemon juice from two lemons in two cups of water.
  2. Pour the lemon water on scalp and hair, massage for a few minutes.
  3. Leave on for five minutes, and then wash it off with lukewarm water.
  4. Repeat three times a week for best results.

 3. Apple Cider Vinegar

The oil-absorbing quality of apple cider vinegar helps balance the pH level of the scalp, which in turn helps control the secretion of excess oil and reduces oil buildup on the scalp. It also works as hair tonic, makes your hair soft and shiny.

  1. Add 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water.
  2. After shampoo, rinse hair with the solution.
  3. Leave on for a few minutes, and then wash off with water.
  4. Repeat two or three times a week.

 4. Baking Soda

Baking soda is another great home remedy for oily hair due to its oil-absorbing ability. As baking soda is alkaline in nature, it helps to balance the pH level of the scalp and reduce the unpleasant smell.

  • Mix one part of baking soda in three parts of water to make a paste. Apply to damp hair. Leave on for a few minutes, and then wash hair with warm water. Repeat once or twice a week.

I personally prefer to use apple cider vinegar as it is readily available and easy to use. Do try them out and feel free to leave your comments here 🙂
